Spouse Space – A community for international spouses and partners in North Denmark

Spouse Space is a welcoming initiative designed for the accompanying spouses and partners of international professionals living in North Denmark.

The core of the program is our monthly meetings, where participants are invited to help shape the agenda. Each meeting is typically divided into two parts:

  • The first part focuses on topics such as job searching, cultural differences, networking, volunteering, entrepreneurship, and more. We also aim to visit at least one local company during the program.

  • The second part is dedicated to socializing and connecting with like-minded people, who are also navigating a new chapter in a new country.

The goal of Spouse Space is to

Create a strong social and professional network among participants

Support job search and career development

Help participants integrate into life in North Denmark

Offer a space to share and navigate everyday challenges together

Spouse Space is coordinated by the team at International House North Denmark in close collaboration with local partners. Through this network, we provide access to job search workshops, CV writing support, and other career-focused activities. We also facilitate networking events and help connect participants with companies and organizations across the region.

Whether you're looking for career support, local insight, or simply a place to meet others in a similar situation — Spouse Space is here for you.

Feedback from previous participants

“As I came to Denmark, I was full of questions and confusions to find the best way to follow my career goals. It was a great chance to get to know the International House team and especially Pernille. She guides and supports me with patience. She gives me very useful information in preparing my CV, cover letter and approaching different employers. I am very thankful for all of it.”

"Spouse Space helped me to build my CV and helped me to be more efficient with my job research, and just a few days after my first appointment there I had a job interview. Now I am working for a Danish company, and the job is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much to Spouse Space and to the people that are running this programme!"

“I think I am a very lucky person because I came across International House and got acquainted with tons of like-minded young people through their events. During the past year, everyone whom I met inspired me and believed in me with their whole heart. I am very grateful to Spouse Space for creating a very friendly and supportive environment, that helped me to focus on finding a job, develop my LinkedIn profile / CV, learn how to write application letters and as a result, find my dream job. I wish that more people in Aalborg knew about International House North Denmark and how it changes a person's life for the better. Keep dreaming about your ideal job in Denmark and it will come!“

“We had moved to Aalborg because my husband received his dream job. To be totally honest I had a very hard time accepting that we should leave our beloved home and family, and our expat life had a very difficult start.

Spouse Space was among the first ones I found and contacted for help, information and suggestions. Rikke was so supportive from the first moment! When it came to my job seeking, she made me feel hopeful, despite that literally everyone told me I would not find a suitable job without Danish knowledge - even at the Jobcenter. I have found one in two weeks (I was lucky too, I know).

Being surrounded by supportive and caring people is maybe among the most important things at the moment of starting a new life abroad. So new expats, please count on Spouse Space."
